Mike Co-Founded Luvo in 2010 while a senior at
Kent State University. He brings energy and passion to the company. While
at Kent State, Mike studied and graduated with a degree in Finance and
Entrepreneurship. Inspired by his personal experience and frustration
while in school, Mike believes in the mission of Luvo: powering the
student-to-student exchange of high quality academic materials to help
supplement and complement the learning experience by harnessing commerce
and the latest technologies.
Steven Maggs serves as the Chief Technology Officer at
Luvo and brings leadership and innovation with both hands-on and
management experience building, running, and maintaining large-scale
Internet services. As the former CTO of Thinking Screen Media and AVP at
CNET Networks, Steven brings an array of experience poised to run
Luvo through its growth phase. Steven earned his Bachelor of Arts at
Amherst College and lives in Acton, MA with his wife, two children, and
Joel joined Luvo as the CFO and COO in November 2014 and with that brings deep operational, financial and general business experience. Prior to joining the Luvo team he held senior financial positions at Rue La La and Forrester Research. Joel enjoys building data driven teams, processes and systems that are scalable and able to help drive value in his business. When he is not at work, Joel is a busy father and husband who enjoys spending time with his wife Janine and three children - traveling, snowboarding, fishing or just hanging out.
Kate has a passion for making the pursuit of a college education a better experience for today’s student. She feels passionately that Luvo is a contributor in improving today’s college experience. Prior to joining Luvo Kate worked for Edvisors where she contributed to the significant growth and success of ScholarshipPoints.com. In her personal time Kate can be found either out for a run or sitting on a beach with her wife and daughter.
Recently graduating from Tufts University with a degree in Philosophy, Thomas joins the Luvo team as a Junior Software Engineer. Thomas thrives in the world of abstractions and particularly enjoys thinking about data manipulation and artificial intelligence. In his spare time, he takes pictures of half-eaten sandwiches, plays a mean game of bingo, and wonders about the meaning of life.
Kate joined the Luvo team in winter of 2014
to handle quality assurance for the website. Formerly a QA Engineer at
Scholastic, Inc., she comes with a strong background in both education and
technology. For Luvo, she works to combine these forces again to
help bring the best innovative tools to colleges across the country in
hopes of helping to build a strong network among students.
For nearly a decade, Mina has been helping make education and healthcare better by managing requirements and rapid product development in ever-changing landscapes. Having most recently come from educational software development for K-12, Higher Ed was the logical next step. When she’s not wrangling projects, you can find Mina traveling to VT for open-water swim races and beer tourism, attempting to play the accordion, and working on clients as a licensed massage therapist for over 15 years.
Prior to joining Luvo, Jim was a principal engineer for Boston startup Locately, the location-based market research platform. Before that, he spent over a decade as an architect and developer for TomTom. Jim enjoys using his knowledge of data analysis and algorithm development to further the state of service oriented business platforms.
At home, he enjoys time with his wife and children where small town living is a welcome break from the demands of startup work. On weekends Jim plays in a soccer league.
Bobby is a graphic and web designer, and also knows a
thing or two about marketing, public relations, SEO, video editing and
journalism. He’s driven by creating unions of functionality, beauty, wit
and relevance to help companies reach and engage their audiences. A native
to Massachusetts, Bobby spent a few years in South Florida and a brief
stint in West India before graduating from Northeastern University in
2010. In his free time, you can find him writing for his TV blog, tackling
new routes at the rock gym or pretending he knows what he’s talking about
while volunteering at craft beer festivals.
Jake is a web developer fresh out of Tufts University’s Computer Science department and an eager member of the Luvo team. He is originally from Phoenix, Arizona but was willing to forsake the sunny weather in the name of Boston’s thriving technology space and killer restaurant scene. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, running, and watching the same movies over and over again.
Liz is the Director of Strategic Initiatives. Previously, she worked as a Sales Representative for Cengage Learning® in Colorado. While working on her Masters at Cornell University, she researched the implementation of various literacy strategies into career technology schools. In addition to research, she helped design a yearlong professional development workshop for teachers. While she enjoys music, art, snowboarding and traveling, her true passion is education.
Eamonn picked up programming as a hobby before college and has been hooked ever since. He's excited to be using cutting edge web technologies with Luvo. Before moving to Boston, he worked on fantasy sports games in Connecticut, and studied Computer Science at Westfield State University. When he's not typing he enjoys video games, producing music, and occasionally sampling fresh air.
Sean spent much of his early career in arts management before discovering a love for technology and innovation. He’s passionate about solving problems and leveraging technology to enhance customer experience. Sean believes strongly that open collaboration is a vital component of education. That, and he just really likes people! A native New Jerseyan (Jovi > Bruce), Sean graduated from Rowan University in 2007 and is currently pursuing his MBA at Boston College.
Jason has been working as an application developer and solutions architect in the Boston area for 12 years with companies such as Endeca, MarkLogic and Brightcove. Over the years he has specialized in search / information access, e-commerce, big data, and most recently online video solutions. He comes to Luvo with an excitement to contribute to the growth of the Education space, where technology can enhance students’ learning experience in effective, tangible ways. In his spare time Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and two young boys, acting in community theater productions, and playing in a local over-30 baseball league.
Heidi, a native New Yorker/Vermonter, has been calling Boston home since she graduated from Lasell College in 2013. Her passion for both marketing and creating new connections allowed her to be successful at her previous position with Mendix, an app platform company. Aside from marketing, Heidi also enjoys hiking, going to concerts, and checking out local craft beer festivals. She looks forward to continuing to make an impact on students’ lives, while also growing in her career.
Audrey Roy is a native Ohioan who became involved with Luvo during her final semester at Kent State University in Spring 2014. Her passion for marketing helped her be successful at accomplishing a significant presence of Luvo on Kent State’s main campus. Throughout college she gained experience working in higher education with Kent State University and Texas Christian University. She is excited to make an impact on students’ lives, while continuing to grow and expand in her new career.
Courtney is passionate about making a difference and loves connecting with people, which is why she joined Luvo in March of 2014. Prior to joining the team, Courtney worked for a national food broker managing a team of 19+ associates, developed Individual Success Plans for adults with physical and developmental disabilities, and recruited staff for a staffing agency for several years. Her motto is “Happy to be here, happy to be alive!”
Jack has a passion for helping students succeed as part of the Student Engagement Team. While earning a BA in Marketing Management from Champlain College in Vermont, he discovered a love for communications and client relations through classes and internships. He’s since returned to his native Boston to pursue his career, be closer to family, and support the world’s greatest sports teams. In his free time you can find him skiing, snowboarding, fishing, or just hanging out with his friends.
Alex is a front end developer excited by interaction design, user experience, and the newest, hippest web tools. Prior to joining Luvo, Alex worked on several edtech projects, including a blog and iPad app for The Future Project. In his free time he's into bulking up, extremely difficult literature, bleep-bloop music, "film," and diet trends.
Jonathan is pleased to call himself a part of the Luvo development team. A graduate of Oberlin College’s Philosophy department, he’s long been fascinated by the power of new technologies to gather and disseminate information, and he’s excited to help shape the future of higher education. In his free time he enjoys reading, noodling on the guitar, and thinking about the Big Questions.
Adriana is an enthusiastic member of the student
engagement team and manages email marketing at Luvo. She loves
working with small, highly ambitious teams. Previously, Adriana supported
the production of a groundbreaking documentary, TEN9EIGHT. As
a JetBlue campus representative at Northeastern, Adriana secured approval
to award the winning team of NU’s iconic Amazing Husky Hunt with twelve
round-trip tickets to any JetBlue destination. A native Californian,
Adriana graduated from Northeastern University in 2007 and has called
Boston home ever since.
Eddie began in software to work on telling interactive, visual stories, which led to a decade of focus on blending technology and art. This involved teaching computer science at Ohio State and working in scientific visualizations for the biomedical industry, then web development focused on data display. At Luvo, he's excited to get more information to students better and easier. After hours he spends time on writing projects, soccer, and relaxing with his wife and dog.
